He has agreed a deal to build the resort, which will feature 1,100-plus apartments and villas, two full-size football pitches, an 18-hole golf course and five-star hotel; the first phase including the golf course and over 400 units, is scheduled for completion in summer 2008. “This is a lifestyle offering – it is very exciting and I am highly motivated,” Venables said. “The football will be supported by Gordon Taylor of the PFA and FIFpro. We will have 20 or 30 coaches; youngsters get special training.” The project, situated outside Alcoy near Valencia, could eventually be worth up to £300 million, according to local press reports.
