Watch The Evening Standards Home and Property magazine on ITV

Home and Property showLast Thursday I caught Show 2 of ITV’s new Home & Property show. An spin-off from the popular Evening Standard magazine, the show interestingly features a new development each week. The programme featured Canary Wharf in East London’s Docklands area and in particular the Pan Peninsula, a 2 tower waterfront development. The development is part of ongoing urban regeneration of this area which has transformed abandoned wastelands to a prosperous business district of over 63,000 workers who live and work in the area.

Located at 1 Mill harbour, the tallest tower is set to be the tallest residential tower block in Europe, rising to a staggering 560ft when it completes in 2009. The two interlinking towers similar to Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas towers will have 50 storeys and 800 flats with a five start hotel, shops, bars and restaurants.

The project which is being designed by the infamous Skidmore Owings & Merrill, the architects behind the master plan for Canary Wharf has already sold 75 per cent of the flats in the main tower. Phase Two has just released with prices starting from £260,000 for a studio suite and fuelling interest is news that real estate mogul Donald Trump is reported to have expressed an interest in adding one of the £10 million penthouses to his property portfolio.

However the appeal of sky high living may be short lived as approval of Southwark’s London Bridge Tower nicknamed the Shard of Glass will eclipse Pan Peninsula rising to a colossal 1000 feet high and will also complete in 2009.

You can catch today’s show on ITV at 7.30pm

Great post on Pan Peninsula – it really is a landmark London development…imagine a martini in the proposed cocktail bar on the top floor of the 50-storey tower!
