New Boa Vista Airport Cape Verde

Agents and developers on the island of Boa Vista in Cape Verde have been given a boost with the opening of a new international airport.

Commenting on the new Boa Vista International Airport , opened by Prime Minister José Maria Neves, Victor Fidalgo, president of CV Invest, the government’s investment approval organisation said “This can only be positive for Cape Verde as we will have one more island with direct connections to Europe and this will also increase the competitiveness of the property market on the islands,”

The airport forms part of the government’s strategic programme to enhance the local infrastructure and improve accessibility for the tourist industry.

“I believe that now it is fully operational, developers will build more properties on the island and increase supply. Very soon operators will have more new products to promote – boosting the tourism market and increasing levels of foreign investment.

“Cape Verde’s main developing sector is tourism and it has been that way for over seven years. This new airport is just another part of the development programme from the government.” said Fidalgo.

A new airport whilst bringing more tourists to the island can create its own problems and there are those in the industry that believe the island of Boa Vista is ill equipped with the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the influx of European tourists and buyers. Happy to see other islands developing, Paola Mariani, from Sal-based developer Cabo Golfe, believes as more tourists arrive on Boa Vista it will force the government to address other issues affecting the local industry. Boa Vista might be competition for Sal in a few years time. This will help boost its infrastructure and provide more opportunities for tourists to travel around all the islands and boost the whole country.

“Boa Vista is a ground level development at the moment and is quite difficult to buy on – there are also a few title issues that need to be controlled. However, I think the government will step in to sort out Boa Vista now as it getting more international attention.”

Charter flights will now operate on a regular basis to the island making the beauty of Cape Verde more accessible to holiday makers and buyers of property in Cape Verde.
