Andalucia Rail Proposal Good For Spanish Investors

andalucia rail networkAs if there wasn’t already enough of England in Spain, Andalucia’s regional government is considering introducing a Tube-style rail network across the province in a move directly targeted at both local people and tourists.

This new transport connection will enable fast and efficient access to some of the most popular parts of Spain, including Malaga, Seville and Granada and the plan forms part of a larger strategy designed to get people out of the habit of using traditional, pollutant modes of transport.

The rail network is set to be an added bonus for residents, tourists and investors alike with news of the move being particularly good news for those with investments in the Andalucia region itself, where visitor numbers have soared in 2007, up in the first six months of the year than over the whole of 2006 tourist figures, according to Vice president Gaspar Zarrias. This stands in sharp contrast against abundant media speculation over an imminent large-scale property market crash in Spain and, while the media went into overenthusiastic meltdown on the topic, Spain seems to have fought back, with yet more property research this month revealed by the prestigious Country Life magazine, claiming that more than one in ten respondents were seriously thinking of entering the Spanish property market. Of these Spanish property buyers many are purchasing with their sole intention that it be a family holiday home whilst others intend to rent their property to help cover expenses and hold it as a retirement fund.

Such is the continued popularity of the country that budget Spanish airline Clickair has announced that it plans to operate routes from Edinburgh to Barcelona throughout the winter period after the success of a summer trial which saw 18,000 passengers travel between the cities during August and September. Clickair have also confirmed that flights to Seville and Valencia could become part of their schedule from next summer, good news again for Spanish investors.
