Apr - 11 | No comments. | New Developments, UK Property

i Life HomeIt seems UK developers are starting to listen to their public and hot on the heels of recent off plan intelligent living concepts in Manchester and Leeds. David Wilson Homes have gone one step further with their i-liFE range, which has been based on a larger Project Life study by the University of Nottingham which tracked a typical family’s movement patterns in a prototype new home over a 6 month period. On the back of the study, i-liFE properties reverse the classic home layout putting a spacious living / eating zone on the upper level incorporating high ceilings with mezzanine storage to use dead space. Downstairs you have a double bedroom with good wardrobe storage and the bathroom includes the washing machine for improved efficiency.

Selling from ₤65,000 upwards, the new homes range includes apartments for single person living, studio houses and 2-3 bedroom Mews Houses. There are plans to replicate the concept from Scotland down to Kent. Construction is already under way on sites at Balderton, Nottinghamshire, and Wootton, Northamptonshire.

Not to be outdone Barratt Homes is targetting today’s MP3 generation with its Ipad. With 30 units already sold on its first site underway in Middlesborough, Barratt Homes aims to sell 1000 of these stylish units annually as it expands to 16 locations nationally. Compacted into just over 380 sq ft— inside the iPad you will find a fully fitted kitchen, open-plan living space, a separate double bedroom and a bathroom with a bath. The aim is create ‘real homes’ with a micro price tag (from ₤80k), affordable for every first time buyer.

Redrow Homes launched its own version Debut range last year in Rugby with ₤49,995 studios. They incorporate award winning features such as communal hot water and heating systems for improved energy efficiency within the home, communal landscaped areas and an equity sharing scheme to deter buy-to-let investors.

A new generation of pocket-sized homes is on the horizon, just make sure you have a pocket-sized cat to swing in it!
