Cape Verde Flight Takes Off in July

A brand new London Gatwick to Cape Verde flight takes to the skies from July 10. The British airline operator Astraeus announced the new route, which will fly to Boa Vista the third largest of the Barlovento group of islands located in the east of the Atlantic Ocean, close to the Senegalese coastline.

Last year, Astraeus launched the first-ever direct UK flights to Cape Verde last year, flying from both Manchester and London Gatwick to Sal’s Amilcar Cabral International Airport. Sal lies with northern islands in the cluster and like its sandy counterparts is seeing a huge influx of tourism investment and property development. Adding more direct flights to the islands, which have been nicknamed Europe’s Caribbean Hotspot, should further boost international investment interest in Cape Verde property in particular.

“These islands are rapidly establishing themselves as a new and different destination, with a number of environment-sensitive property and hotel developments taking place throughout the main islands,” said Astraeus managing director Hugh Parry.

The new six hour flights will operate weekly on Tuesday and tickets are likely to cost around 377 return, including taxes and extra charges, the higher travel costs are part of the desire to keep Cape Verde and the island of Boa Vista, a holiday destination for the discerning traveller. The flight will include a stop at the neighbouring island of Sal en route.

With a pleasant year-round climate, Cape Verde is a relatively new holiday destination and has remained detached from western Europe largely due to lack of accessiblity. Until now it has only been possible to reach Cape Verde by air via southern European, African airports, or by sea.

With the number of tourist visitors to Cape Verde on the up and now direct flights to the major islands, it is only a question of time before Cape Verde becomes a winter holiday favourite.
