This looks like a good list, but does anyone know anymore great agents? I’d love to hear of your personal experiences.

    Hi

    One for the list

    http://totallyriviera.com

I know a lot of people who’ve bought from them in Nice and found their customer service second to none.

    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi,

    I know one.

The fact is, I’ve never heard of your site until my estate agent, now a good friend, told me about you. He asked if I could write to you about my experience of his agency on your site.

He’s an Irish guy called Gerry O’Neill and runs a site called premierfrenchproperty.com. They have four agencies in the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne.

I’m guessing but I wondered if your list above is a compilation of companies and websites based on popular keyword searches for property in France. Even better if they are people you know and can vouch for personally who do things to make them “great agents”.

For me a personal recommendation holds a lot more water than the results of a google search.

We started our search for property in the Dordogne in 2004. We visited with a number of agents but very quickly sorted the wheat from the chaff. We bought a year later. From Gerry. Why ? Lots of reasons.

At that time the housing market was up. Agents seemed to have more clients than they could shake a stick at. We only had a budget of 150,000 euros and were sent to the back of the queue by most of them. I bet the same agents today would bite my arm off for that amount. If they’re still around.

We found their prescriptive approach too much to bear. It was a bit like that character in the Harry Enfield series, the Dad who said “Nah, you don’t want to do that.” Listening was a problem for them. “Two ears and one mouth” became our catch phrase.

Then, thankfully, we met Gerry. A breath of fresh air. He was relaxed, laid-back and knew his subject inside-out. But most of all he was humble. He immediately won our confidence. He made a point of telling us about the negatives of properties we thought would suit. He explained why they wouldn’t. Like the one with quarry or the chicken farm next door. Others waited until we got there when we could see it for ourselves hoping that if they threw enough crap at the wall that maybe some of it would eventually stick.

Gerry knows how to listen to people. “I don’t sell houses”, he said. “Houses sell themselves, I’m just a glorified chauffeur.” After our first meeting, we knew we’d found an agent we could trust. Several house hunting trips and twenty viewings later he found us our ideal home in France. I have to say he put up with a lot. He had the patience of a saint.

Since then, we’ve recommended others to Gerry. And they in turn have sent friends and family to him who needed someone to take the stress out of buying a home overseas off their shoulders. Say no more.

    Best regards,

    Sarah

  4. Bretagne Proprietes Services was conceived in the last century by three partners, Patrick Goudy, Bertrand Guillemot, and David Ward. All three were driven by a passionate love of the beauty and quality of life within Brittany – a quality of life which continues to thrive to this present day.

Founded in 1991, the business was based on the provision of a personal and high quality level of service together with a greater understanding of the property needs of the developing foreign ownership market, together with the emergence of a new generation within France who desired to be property owners.

Given these foundations, the directional vision and the increased popularity of Brittany as “the” location for “Maison Secondaire”, the business has grown in size and reputation and now boasts offices in four locations within the Morbihan region.

Currently employing some ten staff (all English speaking) within the group, Bretagne Proprietes Services provides a professional and dedicated service to clients both new and old. Linking with estate agents within the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands, and utilisation of the internet, has enabled our company to extend its catchment area to beyond the immediate regional borders and become “the” Immoblier of first contact.

Our portfolio of properties contains everything old and new – from “needing attention and tender loving care” to “ready to move in today” – from “small and bijou” to “Chateau with extensive grounds”.

You will find the people of Brittany to be very welcoming, and you will undoubtedly be impressed by the beautiful scenery and undulating landscape. Explore the numerous picturesque villages, and small towns of character, each offering good quality facilities. Discovering the extensive real and mythical history really brings the character of the region to life.

Services to the region continue to improve with the recent introduction of the TGV and expanded road network. There has also been a dramatic interest in the provision of “low cost flights” to regional airports within Brittany from all over Europe.

The proximity of the “Golfe du Morbihan” is an added bonus providing lovely sandy beaches and a unique micro climate to the region.
