2005 end my thoughts

As the year draws to a close, many real estate companies are reflecting on 2005 and what a year it has been. In the International real estate marketplace there have been a number of new entrants to the market. When Amanda Lamb mentioned the Cape Verde Islands on her programme “A Place in the Sun” the investors started to take note. As such, demand and supply of new development properties in the Cape Verde Islands has exploded with over 2,250,000 results in Google. Morocco in Northern Africa has also gained media exposure in the past year and with the governments 10-year development plan looks set to be a popular investment country. Brazil is another country on the up with cheap investment properties on the Northern coast.

However property prices in the UK are stagnant with some reports stating that prices are up and other that prices are down?! This has had a knock on effect to more established markets like Spain. With so many new properties being built in Spain, price increases have levelled off in many areas, especially the Costa del Sol.

So what does 2006 hold for International property??

My feelings are that overseas property is still going to be popular by investors and second home buyers alike. As countries like Dubai and Bulgaria have seen explosive growth over the past year, I think that interest will level off over the coming year, as new attractive markets open up.

What are your thoughts on 2006?
