Caribbean Property, Overseas Property News
Our post last summer on rise of Set-Jetting has been further highlighted by a recent poll by cheapflights.co.uk which surveyed is website visitors on which movie sets piqued their interestin 2006. The 2007 movie awards season paid tribute to a great number of foreign films which not only highlighted poignant stories but were an opportunity to showcase a host of exotic destinations worldwide. From Blood Diamond to Volver, foreign locations have stood out.

When asked which film location would you most like to visit? 45% overwhelmingly voted for The Caribbean, choosing the sun, sand, sea and rum appeal showcased in Pirates of the Caribbean which was filmed on location in The Exumas.
Borat on the other hand, whilst he may not be winning any favours with the American people, did a much better job of highlighting the wonders of Kazakhstan, mentioned in our podcast with Guy King from House Hunters in the Sun magazine and rumoured to be the investment location for Irish developers looking for next new property market. It seems Kazakhstan property may well be a overseas hotspot in the making with 20% choosing to visit it over trendy New York (Devil wears Prada) and the allure of Sierra Leone whose bloody past was the inspiration for Blood Diamond.
La Mancha in Spain, setting for Volver was second to least favourite England & Scotland despite winning an Oscar for The Queen, it would seem just 3% of the 1047 people polled would elect to stay at home. With the advent of low cost travel to Hong Kong, Malaysia and other exotic ‘adventurous’ destinations such as Morocco, Cape Verde and Brazil gaining appeal over the summer holiday standards as much for a holiday getaway as a overseas property investment location, it’s little wonder holiday home bookings in the UK are facing increased competition these days.
