Highlighted in the penultimate edition of the Bulgarian Dreams podcast series, is the often overlooked summer activity potential of Bulgaria’s mountain ski resorts which offer much more than just world class skiing!

When thinking about holidays in Bulgaria, many people’s travel associations’ fall into two categories. Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast resorts of Sunny Beach, Golden Sands and Varna come to mind as typical Bulgarian summer holiday hotspots and Bulgaria’s mountain terrain attracting legions of skiing aficionados in search of cheap ski holidays. Hikers can sleep overnight either in the network of alpine huts found throughout the mountain highlands or in cosy guest houses in the many foothill villages.

Opportunities for adventure are practically limitless with climbing walls, mountain biking trails and horseback riding as options. You can even cave trek deep into the earth’s depths at the Trigrad gorge to access a 60m high waterfall, not for the fainthearted!
