Events and Exhibitions

A Place in the Sun Live, an exhibition dedicated to overseas property, debuted at London’s custom built exhibition centre ExCel back in April 2005, supported by magazine spin-off A Place in the Sun Magazine, Channel 4 broadcaster of the hit TV brand A Place in the Sun and popular presenter Amanda Lamb. The Association of Event Organisers (AEO) recently ranked A Place in the Sun Live among the UK’s Top 40 consumer exhibitions and remains the UK’s biggest and best-attended overseas property show. To Win Free tickets to A Place in the Sun Live
The exhibition runs twice annually, this year at ExCeL London from 30th March-1st April 2007 and again later on in the year at the NEC Birmingham from 28th-30th September 2007, which became a second location back in September 2006. This coming weekend A Place in the Sun Live 2007 kicks off with an even bigger show. In addition to over 400 exhibitors and free seminars, two brand new sections have been added. The Emigration Show is a response to a growing army of individuals and families seeking to up sticks and emigrate overseas, to escape the UK’s high cost of living, the stresses and strains of day to day life or simply find a change of scenery, this section aims to acquaint would-be emigrants with the responsibilities of packing up their UK life and how to the transition to their new life abroad as smooth as possible. It is predicted that around one million Brits are expected to move abroad over the next five years so in partnership with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s ‘Know Before You Go’ campaign, the Emigiration Show offers advice on visa requirements, applying for work permits, moving costs, what pension and tax obligations to consider and much more, if you are planning a move to foreign shores. A dedicated Emigration seminar programme features hourly sessions from experts on all aspects of Emigration and will be free to attend on a first come, first served basis. For families seeking to emigrate abroad, help with the necessities of sourcing education, opening a bank account and finding employment is also available.
The new dedicated French Pavilion is also brand new for 2007 and a testament to the UK’s love affair with La France. A showcase for all things French, you can get to grips with French property on offer by talking to 20 specialist French agents promoting a wide range of character properties. A lively town square enables you to sample the atmosphere of a French Market and get an authentic taste of the pleasures of life in France.
There are also four more sections with the aim of helping you to get a feel for life in that part of the world, from the Safari Lodge showcasing South Africa, Route 66 giving a sample of stateside living, Las Ramblas Tapas, the heart of life in Spain and the Red Sea Café highlighting our fascination with Egypt.
Having personally visited A Place in the Sun Live, I would have to agree that it is one the best produced overseas property exhibitions out there at present, if you just starting your search for a property abroad and want to compare the benefits of different destinations, this ‘one-stop’ shop lets you research a host of different locations all in one place, alternatively if you know where you want to buy property, you can see what is currently is on the market, my only advice would be don’t commit to anything before taking the time to view the property in the cold light of the day!
For 2007, A Place in the Sun Live will be bigger and better but still with the principal aim of educating, entertaining and informing overseas property buyers on all aspects of buying international property.
If you’d like to attend this weekend’s exhibition for free, we have 5 pairs of A Place in the Sun tickets to give away. To enter, all you need to do is leave a comment at the bottom of this post, saying why you like to go and telling us your plans for a property overseas. The most interesting 5 comments will be sent tickets for this weekend show at ExCel before Friday. Good Luck!

We are prison officers stressed out and looking to buy/move to Goa (Candolin area) we have £30.0000 to invest in a property with a view to moving permantely. HELP!
I live in the Netherlands which a beautiful place to live, but can be very frustrating when you can’t access any information on property abroad in English. All exhibitions are advertised in Dutch and any conferences will be conducted in Dutch. So I would love the chance to experience A place in the Sun Live to speak to the companies participating and find out more about property investments.
I would like to gleen information on the capital investment comparisons between tourist destinations like Croatia and Bulgaria, and city apartments in emerging markets.
We have just purchased a property in Algarve which when it is ready will be mostly for personal use. However we are also interested in investing in property in other locations. We have seen some websites on property in Turkey and are interested in looking at the plans for these. We believe that the developers will be exhibiting at the Excel Centre this week-end and wouldn’t mind having a look at their stand and others. We haven’t been to the exhibition before so this would be a new experience.
I would love to win the free tickets so that I could suprise my husband by showing him how affordable it could be for us to buy a holiday home in Morocco or Bulgaria.
Having recently purchased houses in the relatively unexplored property backwaters of Slovenia and S.W. Hungary, my partner and I wish to complete our “three card trick” by investigating available property in either the wilds of Romania or the Baltic states. The “Place in the Sun” exhibition would be a great place to start our research
Thanks for the opportunity.

Hi,
I just love A Place in the Sun and have watched Amanda, Jonnie, Jasmine and others for the last couple of years. We have traveled in Spain and loved it and hope to purchase some property there. Going to the Earls Court Exhibition Show in early April would give us more information and perhaps I could meet my idols. Thanks for the opportunity.
Hi,
We are going to retire to France to run a Chambre d’hotes business and I am planning to travel around the South of France in July. I am sure that a visit to the ‘A Place in the Sun’ exhibition this Friday will spur my husband on to sit down with me and plan the trip, we do need advice on where to settle to ensure a good business plus a happy life style.
Thank you
Jane
