For the first time Travel Association ABTA and the Foreign Office have combined forces to release a 2009 Travel Trends Report, predicting Turkey, Egypt and Mexico will see a significant rise in British holidaymakers throughout 2009 as they favour euro-free travel destinations where they can realise the value of the pound.
With the continued economic downturn, cut-price holidays are at the top of travellers agendas and over the past year figures from data analyst Ascent MI, have shown the number of Brits going to Egypt has risen by 38% in the last year and visitors to Turkey have increased by 32%.
Commenting on the ABTA report, Editor of Overseas Property News Blog Nubricks.com Chintan Mahida said, “Rising numbers of visitors for Turkey holidays and Egypt have transformed them into overseas property hotspots with buyers seeking a cheap base for both beach and cultural holidays.”
The report has revealed a list of travel hotspots for 2009 include Mexico, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Dubai, Dominican Republic, St Lucia, Cuba, Aruba, Galapagos Islands, Iceland, Poland, Croatia and Australia.
Croatia is well on its way to becoming a fully fledged overseas property hotspot and should benefit further when it joins the EU in 2011 and from next year buyers of Croatian property will be able to purchase on the same terms as Croats.
Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic’s proximity to the USA and Canada make them favoured as bargain beach resorts offer Americans more bang for their holiday buck.
“Recent currency fluctuations of the sterling and dollar has prompted travellers to head further afield to countries which offer better value for money on holiday” added Chintan, “coupled with the fact that travellers are becoming more adventurous, destinations in South America and emerging Caribbean islands are attracting more travel visitors and in turn property investors seeking the property buying hotspots of the future.”
