Performing at the launch of one of the world’s most exclusive holiday resorts, pop princess Kylie Minogue is set to be paid £2m for a 60 minute gig at the opening ceremony of Atlantis The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. The mega palm shaped island has been 7 years in the making with the first Palm properties being handed over back in 2006.
Also located on The Palm Jumeirah Island and naturally heralded as Donald Trump as ‘the best location in Dubai’, he was also in town recently to put on a lavish launch with a host of A-list celebrities and Christina Aguilera who headlined the event designed to spread the word about the Trump International Hotel & Tower Dubai set to open Summer 2011.
Atlantis The Palm meanwhile, opens September 24th with an A-list bash costing £16m – the most expensive private party ever staged. 2,000 guests comprising footballers, actors, politicians, musicians and royalty will be catered for by four Michelin-starred chefs at a cost of £5,000 a head.
The desert emirate of Dubai has a host of fantastic projects coming to fruition and it seems dreams are turning into reality, an amazing feat by anyone’s standards especially those who have bought a property in Dubai.
As parks such as Dubailand and Sports City open their doors, the question on investors lips is just how much of a run will Dubai give world class resorts such as Disneyland in Florida and the more traditional beach holidays in Europe? Is it bad timing or could Dubai holidays take serious marketshare in countries whose tourism industries are already struggling, on the back of present effects of the global credit crunch and the soaring cost of living.
Only time will tell whether a property investment in Dubai will pay off.
